Cottonwood Community Garden
Cottonwood Community Garden is a magical 4 acre community garden in East Vancouver that feels like a forest in the midst of the city. Located along the back of Strathcona Park, our garden has 140 garden plots and large communal areas which include apple, plum, pear, sour cherry, persimmon, Mulberry, fig, & Asian pear trees; raspberries, blueberries, grapes, Kiwis, currants, gooseberries, Saskatoon berries, blackberries, & cranberries; a native garden; an Asian garden; a permaculture garden; a youth garden; perennial flowers and shrubs; eight types of bamboo; nut trees, and many ornamental trees and shrubs. There are two solar greenhouses, toolsheds, beehives, and a pair of nesting bald eagles.
Everyone is welcome in our garden: young people, older people, immigrants, First Nations, people with disabilities. Our new garden expansion is fully accessible for seniors and people with disabilities with raised beds, reachable water taps, wide smooth paths etc.
Our garden features:
*140 large individual garden plots, available to people in the community, at a cost of $15/year

*Solar greenhouse, where gardeners can raise seedlings or plants
*Toolshed, with common tools for gardening
*Common areas with salad veggies, herbs, fruit trees, berry bushes, nut trees
*Ornamental trees, bushes, perennials

*Disability drop-in garden
*Beehives
*Composting
*Monthly work parties where we share food & work together on common areas (last Sunday of every
month)
*Annual Open House on 2nd Sunday of July
*Democratic decision-making by gardeners
